About this Workshop

Join the Smart Citizens’ team and expand your 3D digital design skills. In this interactive online workshop you will learn how to digitally design a 3D jigsaw-style object using the free software, Slicer. This software works by breaking down an object into a series of flat, interlocking pieces to create a 3D structure, which can then be cut out on a laser cutter.

During this interactive session, you will have the opportunity to use Slicer whilst following along with the tutor, and will learn how to:

  • Create a simple 3D digital 'jigsaw' using Slicer
  • Download an object from the free open source library Thingiverse and import it into Slicer
  • Generate 3D 'jigsaws' in a variety of different ways on Slicer
  • Save and export files in the correct format to be uploaded to a laser cutter

Digital Badges

By taking part in this workshop, you will gain a Smart Citizens Digital Badge that can be added to your CV, email signature or LinkedIn profile to highlight your new skills in digital design and fabrication.

Workshop Requirements

Please note: this event will be hosted through Google Meet (no sign-up required). You will be required to download the free software 'Slicer' in preparation for this workshop - more details provided upon booking. We would highly recommend using a computer mouse when taking part in this workshop.
